August branch news Margi Clarke

Hi Everyone

Just a catch up with some Branch News.

The Branch Committee Members have been busy in the past few months.

We have held our Branch meetings in Burslem Stoke-on-Trent and also at Stafford. Our next meeting will be held at Wolverhampton so watch this space for details…

Everyone is aware that there is a lot happening within the Asda Stores, so it is important that you try to attend the Branch Meetings where these issues are discussed. For those of you that cannot attend we will be updating this web site with currant issues within the Stores on a regular basis.

We also hold meeting at our Regional office for the Asda Reps to attend. these are proving to be very successful. Health &Safety issues are discussed and many concerns are raised at this meeting. We also give guidance and advice to our Reps who do an excellent job for their members.

The Branch has purchased some Badges for members and if you come along to our meeting you will be given a badge with GMB and ASDA on it plus refreshments too.

We have decided to adopt a new campaign besides the original one that is still on continuing, Julia’s House a home for Women and children in the Stoke area who experience difficulties such as Domestic violence and abuse and we will continue to support this campaign indefinitely.. The new Campaign is called Dying to Work it first came about when the TUC raised the very Poignant story of a lady called Jackie who was dismissed from her workplace because she had cancer, sadly she passed away from this dreadful disease. This campaign calls for Companies to sign and agree not to dismiss any employees who are suffering from cancer. Hence the name, ,’Dying to Work’. this was suggested that we support the campaign by Ian from Shirley store, so Thank you Ian, I am sure many of us have lost a relative or a friend or know of someone who has suffered with this cruel illness. Our main purpose is to ensure Asda and other Employers take the pledge and sign!!
Please look out for more information regarding the campaigns that Asda A15 Branch is supporting on this web site. We intend to give regular updates for these very important campaigns.

We have also attended many events such as the Chain makers Festival held in Cradley Heath Birmingham, Pride events held in Birmingham and Stoke-on Trent.. We also had the Women’s conference that Myself Kate Wendy and Lorraine attended a very successful conference.
There will be reports on these events on this web site so once again, watch out for more news on here!!.

That’s all for now though folks

Margi Clarke
Branch Secretary Asda A15
